Mission Paraguay Summer 2007
Planned Project for July - One Group (12 people) at EmboscadaFly out: Friday, 13th July Return: Saturday, 4th August
This will be the second year of what is likely to be a four year project to develop a retreat centre at Emboscada, north-east of the capital Asunción. This development will provide a centre for use by the congregations in the Asunción area and schools and other institutions associated with the Anglican Church. In 2006 considerable site clearance took place to provide football and volley ball pitches and the main building was part completed with kitchen, caretaker accommodation, toilets and showers installed. This year we plan to complete this building to provide dormitory facilities and a meeting area for those using the Centre. Accommodation will be in the Church buildings at Roque Alonso and travel to Emboscada by bus. Planned Projects for AugustFly out: Friday, 3rd August Return: Tuesday, 28th August
1. Concepción – One Group (12 people) In 2007 we plan to undertake further work on a number of projects in the Concepción area:
For volunteers working at Concepción accommodation will be in nearby Church buildings. 2. Para Todoi in the Chaco – One Group (12 people)
The project is to build a small church for use by the indigenous Indian people at the village of Para Todoi. Work will also be undertaken to provide facilities for the collection of honey. Bee-keeping is being developed among the people of the Chaco to provide a basic income. Accommodation for this project will be very basic and could be under canvas. Paraguayan builders are employed to undertake the majority of the work on all the above projects and volunteers will be assisting as appropriate to their skills and experience. There will be opportunities to undertake work with children and to visit families in local communities. In many of the areas where we will be working, the local housing is of a very poor quality and, as in past years, a range of home improvements will be undertaken and volunteers will have the opportunity to assist with this work. Cost: £1,350 approx. but is dependent on air travel costs at the time of booking. The cost will include flights, all transport in Paraguay associated with the projects, accommodation, food and insurance. Air tickets will be booked at the end of February 2007. It is essential therefore that you make an early response to secure a place. Dates quoted above are subject to flight availability. Once travel arrangements have been finalised, a detailed information pack will be provided. All volunteers will be required to attend an orientation event in the UK prior to travel. All the funding for the above projects is raised through donations from the churches taking part and from other supporting churches and through private donations. Volunteers from many churches taking part in the projects each year normally assist through various fundraising initiatives. All the projects are organized through the Anglican Church in Paraguay and in association with SAMS GB and SAMS Ireland. Volunteers from the following churches will be taking part in the 2007 Projects:
